The Sellner Group based in Neuendettelsau, Germany, maintaining nine production facilities worldwide is a good example of EquiVest's buy-and-build strategy. The Group achieved a turnover of around € 175 m in 2007. The first portfolio company acquired was Strähle + Hess (acquisition in 2001), which specializes in textile surfaces, followed by SC Schäfer Car Specials and Oesterle SLR (acquisitions in 2002 and 2004). Both of the afore-mentioned companies produce leather components for exclusive automotive interiors. At the end of 2005 Sellner and IPG were acquired, leading manufacturers of exclusive wooden trim as well as functional plastic components for the car interior. Beginning 2008 the Sellner Group acquired the wooden interior business of Erwin Behr in Wallerstein (Germany) and in Grand Rapids (USA). In summer 2009 Sellner Group acquired a majority stake in Angell-Demmel Group, the market leader of trim parts for the automotive industry. Thereby Sellner Group created one of the world's leading manufacturers of decorative surfaces made of wood, plastic, metal, leather and textiles for car interiors. The Sellner Group's customers are: Porsche, Daimler AG, BMW, Audi, VW, Ford, General Motors and system suppliers. While Sellner Group managed to go through the financial and economic crisis 2008/2009 quite successfully, operational losses due to high reject rates related to start-up volumes for new vehicle models as well as miscalculations of these production costs for major orders especially at the wood trim parts facility in Heilsbronn and the metal trim parts facility in Lindau/Kennelbach led to insolvency of the German subsidiaries in wood, metal and plastics. The European part of the metal business was sold to a leading system supplier in the meantime.
